"It is Possible to do a lot with a little"
Anyone has the power to make a social change. It does not take much. Just a positive idea that will spark the interests of others, who are not afraid to give a little effort to make a change for the better.
Most influential Chapter of Tipping Point
The most influential chapter of tipping point was the opening chapter, chapter 1. It captured my attention immediately, and sparked my interest for the book. I had a desire to find out more how the idea of a Tipping Point work. How the real life examples actually happened. How the Hush Puppies became a fashion trend and how the crime wave in Brownsville, New York, drastically reduced. This showed social change in the most illustrative way. How it is possible to change a lot with a little, meaning all it takes is a positive movement and many emotions and actions can be changed.
Social Change in my Community
The type of social change I would like to bring about in my community is motivation and a contagious concern for one to help others. I want to put a desire back into my community to work hard and strive for better things in life, rather than just settling for what they have as of now. I want there to be free programs for the community to take part in, so that they can learn new things and broaden their horizons, but at the same time have fun and to see their community in a new more positive light. I want everyone to build an appeciation for one another and what each individual brings to their very own community. This goes for all. Just not for the adults, but for the youth as well. I want the youth to be more physically active and introduced to healthier environments, so that they have the knowledge to conduct their own respective health in a way that will benefit their holistic health.

Discussion Questions on CH. 3 #6 Colin
I believe that people such as Gandhi and Nelson Mandela have extraordinary personalities and hearts. Their inner strength belittles all. They have have forgiveness levels beyond any human. They have a progress forward outlook on life that no one else sees. It is these people that help our world stay a safe and peace place. They just dont suffer as individuals but as a nation. These two people stand for so much more than themselves. They carry a religion, a nation on their back. This gives them so much more to stand for in times or termoil and struggle.
These two man see the bigger picture. They see the good of the order, they see reason to do what they are doing. This is why they remain uncorrupted and stay positively focused upon their goal for which they stand. This is why these man will forever remain hsitorical figures, for their inner strength and long term focus.

Discussion Questions on CH. 3 #3
I agree with the Broken Window Theory. I believe that crime is a result of disorder, and in ways that crime can be contagious. If there is no set societal order or government or offical law abiding system, than yes crime will be a product of not having these crime fighting factors. Criminals will always be around. As long as there is poverty and drug abuse, then there will always be, a result of murders and homicides and other criminal activity. Criminals find ways to break the law, and then find some way to get away with it. If other criminals see that other criminals got away with his or her crime, then they will think "why can't I get away with mine." It is all part of a never ending cycle. Everyone thinks they are bigger and badder than the one before, but in the end, they are all the same. The criminal is out smarted and out strategized and arrested. Society proves this, one just needs to read the newspaper, and the Broken Window Theory will be proved.

Introduction and Chapter 1 of Tipping Point
The introduction was very eye opening, the introduction alone sparked my interests to get excited for this book. The introduction was packed full of informative detail which is all I need to continue reading with increased focus and intensity. The main point that sparked my attention was to make a change, someone must start a new trend. A little action called changing your behavior. Then after awhile this behavior will become contagious, and more and more people will become part of the movement of change. This will bring about so many new things just by a simple act of contagious change. This is why the Hush Puppies became popular, kids in New York City just started wearing them around and then by word of mouth and by staying true to wearing the shoes, the shoes became outragiously popular, taking the Country by storm, just because kids decided to wear something different. This theory also related to the crime decrease in New York, because people decided to stop all the violence and illegal acts, the streets became safe again and the people enjoyed the new looking streets and neighborhoods and the feeling became contagious and those New York streets became safe and normal again. This book provided a powerful introduction that has me excited to keep on reading.
MLK Night with Mr. Byron Pitts... CNN Reporter
I just want to start off this paper by emphasizing how great this Program was. Mr. Bryon Pitts is one solid, well rounded human being. He is so down to earth but yet so much of an important man to our society. He is intelligent, well driven and humble. Mr. Pitts carries himself with great class and a wonderful outlook on life. He is one inspiring human and we all can learn from him. His back ground in life is more trying than the average mans. He has seen things and been many places that more than half the world will never see in a lifetime. He has been to 38 different countries, has seen people stoned to death, seen criminals been put to death, has seen mass killings, and has seen firsthand the happenings of the terror attacks of September 11. To witness these types of tragic events, takes a person of great character, inner strength and spirituality, and this man had it all. You could just feel his positive vibe takeover the audience. It was just a powerful night in fisher auditorium. His struggles in his lifetime made him such a powerful and humbled man. When he was growing up he suffered from a stuttering issue in his speech and a lack of intelligence. But he worked hard to overcome it all, with the helping hand of his mother and is now and Emmy winning reporter and a very successful man willing to help anyone even students. At the end of the night he gave out his own personal email address to the whole
audience. It is was just a great evening that I wish all could have attended, because no matter who you where, you could have taken something from his speech and could have received some enlightenment from Mr. Byron Pitts. I just cannot say enough about this man, he was just spectacular. Then along with Mr. Pitts where many speeches and dances that were in respect to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the African American Culture. Some were done by students and some were done by Professors but no matter who they were done by, they all did a great job in respects to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the African American Heritage.

Books and Articles I Often Read
When comparing the "The Tipping Point," to books I normally read, it is a book that I would consider reading. I like to read books that provide information, facts and specific detail that increases my knowledge on new respective subjects. I am not big on reading mystery or scary books or things of that nature. If a am goin to read I want it to be beneifical to my knowledge base, so that I too can pass on the new information in which I just consumed. I enjoy reading new and interesting facts. This helps me stay focused and motivated towards reading.

The Family in America Today
The world that we live into today, it is hard to define "The American Family." We have so many different types of families and house holds out there today, its unlike anything that the world has ever seen thus far, and there is no right or wrong. You can not tell someone the way they live is wrong. It is the life they were given and their opportunity to do what they want with it. Everyone finds meaning in different matters, and we all have purpose for different causes. So we all have to learn to appeciate the different ways of life just like accepting different cultures and races and religions. Now I know there is a picture of the common American Family, which is a loving family of a mother and a father and siblings and a dog, with a nice house and cars. Everyone knows the comfortable middle class family. But this is not the norm of society anymore. So we must be open to the 20th century family. The American culture norm is changing and we all need to be open to this new movement in our world.

Diversity in our Society
Diversity is a gift, not an issue. When looking at our society, we are lucky to have such a mixture of people and cultures. We come in contact with many different types of people on a day to day bases which is such a great privalige. It provides us with so much extra knowledge of another cultures, and hopefully people are open enough to appeciate the opportunity that we have in our society and can learn from everyone. Another important thing is that we enjoy this experiences so freely. In other cultures coming in contact with other cultures and social classes is not allowed, so they miss out on all the wonderful opportunities that we have. Thats why we need to be so grateful of this blessing. It is something that we all should treasure, because we have the access to learn something that school and books can not teach us first hand. We can walk around our campus and learn so much, just by interacting with someone of a different race or gender or religion. It truly is as wonderful thing that we all should embrace and welcome.
Then on the other hand there are some many people in our country that do not welcome this opportunity and hold grudges and prejudges ways that are very sad, by eliminating a race or gender or religion because they view it as a meaningless or wrong thing that does not benefit their lives in anyway. Which is sad but is their view, because of some prior happening or occurance between them and a different race or religion that went wrong. Although for the most part I believe that the world is a good place with many good people in it that are grateful for the diversity they experience and I hope that this feeling only grows further and strengthens our country as the years go on.

Colin Lacey's Ideas for Research Topic
When thinking of a research topic, a lot comes to mind, but I will form a paper based around my major, Health and Physical Education. I will try looking at the increasing obesity rate among specific age groups and what is being done about it. I will also analysis how the overweight and obese children of today are effected health wise. I can also illustrate what can be done to prevent this illness and disease from growing and becoming an epidemic. I will focus much of my thought into this topic because this is my major, which will soon hopefully become my career. This is an issue that can not be solved in a short amount of time. It takes much time and dedication over a long period of time, but with the right knowledge and information this crisis can be overcome.

About Me.. First Post for Research Writing
My Name is Colin Lacey and live in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I was born and raised in Harrisburg along with my twin brother, who currently attends Drexel University in Philadelphia. I am a Sophmore at IUP, and a Health and Physical Education Major. I truly enjoy this major and being a part of this university. I also am a transfer student, I previously attended Lock Haven University, but found out shortly that was not the school for me. So I transfered to IUP and have been enjoying everyday. I am much more motivated to work harder and to do more things, because of the positive environment that this campus presents. The positives at IUP are vast and I believe that it makes a huge difference in the students, because I know that I am much happier and open to do new things. I already am a person that is open and flexible, but IUP helps illustrate this for me. It allows me to be spontaneous and outgoing, which I love because I feel as though it makes me much more of a well rounded person and more interesting to others.
I believe that life is good and that everyone should take advantage of the opportunites that are presented to them in life because you never know where that door may lead. So take every opportunity as if it may be your only one. Treat every situation with professionalism and respect and watch the positive results roll in. This is just a bit of some of my theories and philosophies, and as more time in class comes about, I would like to continue my sharing my thoughts.

Fast Writing Page 5... Research Writing
When looking back on the history of my writing career and what was asked of me, was a lot of journal writing. Very informal and personal wirting, writing that reflected ones personal thoughts and feelings on a respective topic of educational or daily life. Although when advancing to a higher grade levels, more constructed and thought out writing was necessary. The completetion of research reports and detailed reflection papers where required. For the most part I never found the writing to be too complicated or difficult, it was just finding the correct information to write about and conveying the information in a way the was understandable and capable of teaching others through my writing. There were many times when I enjoyed writing and sharing my life experiences and spreading the knowledge that I have to others. Writing had always been one of my favorite subjects in school and I viewed writing as a way of expression and passion, because this is where I could voice my opinion. Writing has always been a positive thing for me and I believe it alwyas will. I would like to continue to stay on top of my writing skills, so that I can improve my writing and my research skills, which will hopefully make the whole process run smoother and my writing can become great in detail and more proper. This will take time and dedication but with practice, all should be capable of improvement.
